BALITA HALIN SA KAPITOLYO PHOTO ILOILO – To modernize public access to knowledge and information, the Iloilo provincial government officially launched its digital library and online resource platforms on April 8 — making historical records, government publications, and learning tools just a click away for Ilonggos. ComScore Observer The launch of the Iloilo Provincial Library & Archives’ online portals marks a significant milestone in the province’s push for digital transformation in public service, particularly in the fields of education, culture, and information dissemination. Held at the capitol lobby, the ceremony was attended by university librarians, students, department heads, and provincial government officials. The event also featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Provincial Administrator Raul Banias and Provincial Library and Archives chief Allana Delgado. The digital platforms unveiled include: * Library Website (www.iloiloprovinciallibrary.com) – featuring news, updates, and general library information; * Digital Library (www.iloiloelibrary.com) – providing access to digitized government publications, Ilonggo cultural and historical materials; * Virtual Reference Services – enabling real-time online assistance from library staff; and * Bookshare – a specialized digital library that uses assistive technologies for readers with disabilities and reading challenges. “You no longer have to visit the physical library to access government publications or historical records. With just a gadget and an internet connection, learning is now at your fingertips,” said Banias, emphasizing the practical benefits of the new platforms. Although unable to attend, Gov. Arthur Defensor, Jr. was praised for championing educational initiatives. “Our governor is very passionate about education. We’re instilling in our youth the value and joy of reading,” Banias added. Delgado noted that the digital shift enables the library to widen its reach and support more users. “The library can now offer services to anyone, even those who cannot physically visit,” she said. Guests were encouraged to scan QR codes at the venue to instantly access the platforms. The event was also attended by Human Resource and Development Department head Renee Valencia, Public Information and Community Affairs Office assistant head Jose Nereo Lujan, and other Capitol staff.
