DPWH PHOTO ILOILO – The newly completed P96.4-million flood control project in Alimodian is a critical investment in the town’s agricultural resilience and economic stability. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently announced the completion of a 665-lineal meter revetment wall in Barangay Bagumbayan, constructed to protect local livelihoods and facilitate the uninterrupted flow of goods and services, particularly during harsh weather. DPWH Region 6 director Sanny Boy Oropel said the structure is designed not only to prevent flooding but to safeguard the nearby Aganan Bridge, a vital transportation link for local farmers and residents. This protection allows for the consistent movement of agricultural products, helping to stabilize the community’s economy even when river conditions are unpredictable, he explained. Beyond immediate flood control, the project aims to curb sedimentation and pollution in the Jaro-Aganan River, mitigating river bank erosion and preserving the environmental integrity essential to farming and animal-raising activities. With the added security against flood-related disruptions, Alimodian’s agricultural sector, a cornerstone of the local economy, stands to benefit greatly, encouraging further investment in rural development and sustainability.
