Baysulangpu, an anagram of the Hiligaynon phrase “Pulang Subay,” meaning hard work, was formed in 2001. The group has been an active participant in the local art scene, consistently contributing through exhibitions and community activities. “Dagta-an,” derived from the Hiligaynon word for staining or coloring, symbolizes the group’s infusion of fresh perspectives and skills from new members. The ethos of hard work has always been central to the group. This exhibit is a symbolic passing of the torch, showcasing the evolution of our group and preparing for the future in a rapidly changing art world. The exhibit will feature works from artists such as Arnold Almacen, Dea Mikaela Bañas, Edmar Colmo, Edwin De los Reyes, Johanz Mercurio, June Moreno, Kimpoy Dela Cruz, Onofre Ballescas, Vivien Gardose, and Yanni Ysabel. These artists represent a mix of the original members from 2001 and newer generations, including millennials and Gen Z, who bring diverse skills and perspectives. Baysulangpu has navigated various challenges over the years, including the socioeconomic shifts in Iloilo City and the turnover of members. “Dagta-an” not only highlights these changes but also emphasizes the group’s commitment to adapting and thriving in a constantly evolving art landscape.
