Arthur Defensor Jr. has been recognized as an Outstanding Local Chief Executive of the Philippines in the Provincial Category for Visayas Island, acknowledging his effective management and delivery of social welfare programs. The award, presented by the Association of Local Social Welfare and Development Officers of the Philippines, Inc. (ALSWDOPI), cited Defensor’s leadership in the implementation of various social welfare initiatives and services through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), led by Sarah Barayuga. The selection was based on the accomplishments of Defensor’s administration from 2021 to 2023, which included innovative programs and projects aimed at improving the lives of the marginalized and vulnerable sectors in Iloilo. ALSWDOPI’s recognition only goes to one local chief executive per category per island, highlighting the exclusive and prestigious nature of the award. In addition to the recognition, ALSWDOPI national president Jhunleymar Abella extended an invitation to Governor Defensor to attend the Gawad Parangal Awarding Ceremony scheduled for May 15, 2024, at the Iloilo Convention Center.
