<text>Amando Avanceña was born on April 13, 1872, in Molo, Iloilo City. He was a distinguished patriot and eminent figure in Philippine history. He was the son of Lucas Avanceña and Petra Quisay. Amando married Locsin Consing and was the father of three sons: Jose, Alberto, and Jesus. He attended the Seminario de Jaro for his elementary and secondary education and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Colegio de San Juan de Letran. He later entered the University of Santo Tomas, where he obtained the title of “Licenciado en Jurisprudencia.”

Amando Avanceña was a notable Filipino lawyer and politician. He represented the first district of Iloilo in the Philippine Assembly and served as the sixth governor of Iloilo Province from 1914 to 1916 under American Governor-General Francis Burton Harrison.

Furthermore, Amando Avanceña served as the former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines and was a legal adviser to the Federal State of the Visayas, the revolutionary government of the provinces of Iloilo, Capiz, and Antique. He was chosen to negotiate with American forces on Panay during the Philippine–American War. During the revolution, he founded the “Comité Conspirado,” whose main objective was to drive the Spaniards out of Panay and the neighboring Visayas Islands. In addition to that, Avanceña established the “Instituto de Ensenanza Libre,” a school in Molo that provided education and academic opportunities for the local population.

During the American Colonial Era, Amando Avanceña was appointed as an assistant attorney in the Bureau of Justice. In 1905, he became an auxiliary judge. He served as the Attorney General of the Philippines from 1914 until 1917, when he was appointed as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. Following the death of Manuel Araullo in 1924, he succeeded him as Chief Justice, although he had to wait until 1925 for his formal appointment. Additionally, he served as a judge-at-large for the provinces of Surigao, Iligan, and Dapitan. He enacted significant laws related to commerce, industry, and agriculture.

He passed away on June 12, 1957, at the age of 85.</text>

<text>Benito Lopez was born on April 3, 1877, in Jaro, Iloilo City. He was the son of Eugenio J. Lopez, a prominent sugar baron from Negros, and Marcella Felipe. Benito Lopez belonged to the third generation of the esteemed Lopez family.

Lopez was married to Presentacion Hofileña, with whom he had two children namely; Eugenio Lopez and Fernando Lopez.

In or about the year 1900, Juan de Leon, Francisco Villanueva, Esperidion Guanco, and Benito Lopez formed a partnership to publish the newspaper "El Tiempo," which soon became the top newspaper in Iloilo City. At the age of 26, Benito Lopez was appointed as the vice mayor of Jaro, a position he held from 1902 to 1903. Over the years, he furthered his political ambitions and was elected Governor of Iloilo, a position to which he was re-elected in November 1907.

Tragically, on December 27, 1907 Benito Lopez was assassinated in his office at the Casa Gobierno, now known as the Casa Real de Iloilo. He was shot four times by Joaquin Gil, a follower of Francisco Jalandoni of the Nacionalista Party, a political rival. The motive behind the assassination was believed to be retaliation for Lopez's exposure of the jueteng ring in Iloilo.

Despite medical efforts, Lopez died on January 20, 1908, a few weeks after the incident occurred, at the age of 30. He passed away at the Mission Hospital in Iloilo.

The sentence against Joaquin Gil was ordered by W.F Norris, judge of the ninth district court in the province of Iloilo, on February 28, 1908. Gil was sentenced to be hanged by the neck until dead and to pay the expenses of the case. Furthermore, the sentence would take effect upon confirmation by the Supreme Court of the Philippines.

Indeed, his untimely death marked the end of a promising political career and left a significant impact on the political landscape of Iloilo.</text>

<text>Gen. Martin Teofilo Delgado was born on November 11, 1858, to his parents, Don Jacinto Delgado and Doña Gabriela Bermejo. Gen. Martin Delgado was the second child of the family, born from parents who belonged to Aristocratic families in Santa Barbara, Iloilo. Gen. Martin Delgado was married twice. His first wife was Carmen Borra, and they had a child named Conchita who died at an early age. On the other hand, his second wife was Lucia Hisole and he fathered three children with her namely: Teodolfo, Jacinto, and Consolacion.

In his early years, Gen. Martin Delgado attended Santa Barbara Parochial School, he then studied in Jaro, at Seminario de San Vincente Ferrer. In his tertiary level, he transferred to the Ateneo Municipal de Manila where he eventually obtained his teacher's diploma and worked in a public school in his hometown.

Gen. Martin Delgado was later appointed to serve as the teniente mayor of his hometown and capitán municipal. On October 28, 1898, the people of the Iloilo Province took part in the resistance against the Spanish authorities. Gen. Martin Delgado participated in the revolution as he spearheaded a group of volunteers and took control of the municipal building of Santa Barbara. When he was promoted as lieutenant general, he initiated campaigns against the Spanish authorities which resulted in the surrender of General Diego de los Rios.

U.S Brigadier General Marcus P. Miller in the Philippines after the surrender and evacuation of General Diego de los Rios and with him is the support given by Admiral George Dewey, for the occupation of the Iloilo City. February 4, 1899, the conflict between American forces and Philippine revolutionaries began, which led to the fall of Fort San Pedro later on February 11, 1899. The military forces withdrew from Iloilo City, and as an act against the American Forces in Iloilo Province, Gen. Martin Delgado initiated a guerilla campaign.

February 2, 1901, Gen. Martin Delgado eventually surrendered to an American Military Governor named Edmund Rice. Despite this, on April 11, 1901, Gen. Delgado was appointed by U.S. government officials as the first governor of Iloilo Province.

On March 3 1902, Martin was able to continue his services as he was again elected as the governor of Iloilo until March 1904. After leaving the seat, Gen. Martin Delgado traveled back to Santa Barbara and upon his return, he became Santa Barbara’s fifth municipal president.
At the age of 60, Gen. Delgado passed away. His remains can be found at the family mausoleum in Santa Barbara Catholic Cemetery. </text>

<text>Raymundo Angulo Melliza was born on March 15, 1854, in Molo, Iloilo, Philippines, to Don Cornelio Melliza and Gregoria Angulo. He later married Germana Conlu.
Melliza earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Santo Tomas in 1873. He then pursued further education in Spain, obtaining a Licentiate in Laws from the University of Seville in 1878 and a Doctor of Laws from the Universidad Central de Madrid in 1879. He was notably the only Filipino to achieve a Doctor of Laws from the University of Madrid.

Returning to the Philippines the following year, he initially served as a judge in Bulacan and Ilocos Norte. Additionally, he was the only Ilonggo selected by the Spanish colonial administration in Cuba to serve as the secretary of the Real Audiencia, the highest court on the island, in 1897.

Raymundo Melliza became a central figure in the "Iloilo Fiasco," which delayed the American forces' landing in Iloilo Strait on December 28, 1898. He strongly argued against the American landing based on international legal principles, which the Americans struggled to counter. Despite his efforts, the Americans eventually landed by force in February 1899.

Following the revolution, Melliza served as the governor of Iloilo from 1904 to 1906. He played a crucial role in establishing the Philippine Railways in Panay, the only railway system in the country outside Luzon. Act 1497, passed by the Philippine Commission in 1906, authorized the Philippine Railway Company to build railway lines across the Philippines, aiming to improve transportation and facilitate the movement of people and goods. Construction of the Panay railway began that same year, and by 1912, a 116.1-kilometer system was inaugurated, marking the first railway system outside Luzon.

Raymundo Melliza, passed away at the age of 91 on November 11, 1945. He was laid to rest at the Molo Catholic Cemetery.</text>

<text>Ruperto Montinola was born on March 18, 1869, in Bago, Negros Occidental. He spent his formative years in Iloilo, raised by his parents, Don Juan Montinola and Doña Martina Benedicto. Ruperto was married to Basa Benedicto, and they had five children namely; Aurelio, Remedios, Otilia, Vicente, and Gloria.

Furthermore, he pursued his studies at San Juan de Letran College, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1887, and went on to receive his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Santo Tomas in 1895. In 1900, Ruperto Montinola was appointed as the first public provincial fiscal of Iloilo. His distinguished career continued in 1908 when he was appointed as governor of Iloilo, succeeding Benito Lopez, who had been tragically assassinated.

Moreover, in 1931, Montinola was elected to the Philippine Senate representing the 7th District. Renowned as a prominent Filipino politician and lawyer, he earned the title of "Colossus of the South" in the Philippine press. Montinola played a pivotal role as a member of the OsRox (Osmeña-Roxas) Mission to the United States which successfully advocated for the passage of the Hare–Hawes–Cutting Act. This landmark legislation was the first U.S. law to grant Philippine independence.

On the other hand, in 1934, Ruperto served as a delegate to the Constitutional Convention from the second district of Iloilo and was elected First Vice-President of the convention. During his tenure as governor of Iloilo, he was instrumental in funding several significant infrastructure projects in Iloilo City. Notably, he supported the construction of the 3-kilometer Forbes Bridge, which connected Iloilo City with La Paz and Jaro; this was the first concrete road in the Philippines. Additionally, Montinola invested in enhancing the port facilities of Iloilo City and undertook the dredging of the Iloilo River’s mouth near the capitol, further improving the region's infrastructure and connectivity.

Ruperto Montinola passed away while in office on February 10, 1940, at the age of 70. He was laid to rest in Jaro Cemetery.</text>
