<text>Leptospirosis cases in Iloilo drop by 46% in 2024
By Ime Sornito -Thursday, January 9, 2025
Quiñon
Quiñon

ILOILO – This province recorded a 46% decrease in leptospirosis cases in 2024 compared to the previous year.

According to data from the Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO), 208 cases with eight fatalities were reported from January 1 to December 31, 2024, a significant decline from the 385 cases in 2023.

Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection transmitted through contact with urine from infected animals or environments contaminated by it. The bacteria enter the body through cuts, abrasions, or the mucous membranes of the eyes, nose, or mouth.

Early symptoms include high fever, severe headache, muscle pain, chills, redness of the eyes, abdominal pain, jaundice, skin rashes, and gastrointestinal issues.

Dr. Maria Socorro Colmenares-Quiñon, IPHO head, attributed the decline in cases to the El Niño phenomenon, which resulted in less rainfall, reducing the likelihood of floodwaters where the bacteria thrive.

Additionally, heightened awareness among farmers and laborers led to more precautions, such as wearing protective gear and availing prophylactic treatment from health facilities.

Most cases in 2024 involved farmers and laborers exposed to floodwaters contaminated with rat urine, which carries the leptospira bacteria.

“Most of our cases this year, as in previous years, involve farmers who waded through floodwaters due to the nature of their work,” Quiñon explained.

The IPHO continues to remind the public to avoid wading in floodwaters, which may be contaminated. If unavoidable, individuals are advised to wear protective gear and wash their feet thoroughly with soap and clean water after exposure.

Quiñon also urged residents to maintain cleanliness inside and outside their homes, particularly in managing waste to prevent rodent infestations.

The municipalities with the highest leptospirosis cases in 2024 were:

* Janiuay – 21 cases (one death)

* Leon – 14 cases (one death)

* Oton – 13 cases

* Badiangan — 12 cases

* Tigbauan – 11 cases

* Alimodian – 10 cases

* Pototan – eight cases

* Lambunao – eight cases

* San Miguel – seven cases (one death)

* Santa Barbara – seven cases

The remaining 30 municipalities and Passi City recorded lower numbers, with only three municipalities—Batad, Bingawan, and San Rafael — reporting zero leptospirosis cases in 2024.

The 30, including Passi City, are: Cabatuan (six with one death), Estancia (six), Pavia (six), Miag-ao (five), Barotac Nuevo (four with one death), Barotac Viejo (four), Calinog (four), Guimbal (four),Igbaras (four), Lemery (four), Zarraga (four), Carles (three), Dueñas (three), Maasin (three), Mina (three), New Lucena (three), Passi City (three), San Enrique (three), Sara (three with one death), Balasan (three), Leganes (three), Ajuy (two), Anilao (two), Concepcion (two), Dingle (two), Dumangas (two), Tubungan (two), Banate (two), San Dioniso (one), and San Joaquin (one).

Proper disposal of waste and proactive health measures are emphasized as key strategies to sustain the declining trend of leptospirosis cases in the province./PN

SHARING ILONGGOS’ CULINARY GEM. Iloilo City’s Mayor Jerry P. Treñas proudly hands out copies of the city’s gastronomy book as a token to visitors at the City Mayor’s Office. The book is available for sale on a softbound or hardbound copy through the Iloilo Festivals Foundation Inc. (IFFI) office at the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand Lounge, Muelle Loney St., Iloilo City.

ILOILO City – This southern city, now in its second year as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, continues to shine in the headlines of the country’s top dailies and online media.

This spotlight follows the launch of its 244-page gastronomy book titled “Gastronomic Expressions of Our City, Iloilo: Nature, Culture, and Geography” — a project passionately championed by Iloilo City’s first lady, Rosalie Treñas, along with key stakeholders, at the Iloilo Museum of Contemporary Art.

Right photo shows Iloilo City’s First Lady Rosalie Treñas (second from right) and Ms. Raisa Treñas (third from left) with renowned book designer and food writer Ige Ramos (third from right) and esteemed Ilonggo chefs Cidj Jalandoni (rightmost) and Ariel Castañeda (leftmost).
For Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, this achievement not only ignites city pride but also strengthens the commitment to promoting sustainable, world-class gastronomy while sharing Iloilo’s essence with the global community. He emphasized that this initiative is a tribute to every Ilonggo who carries an unwavering sense of pride in their heritage.

“This book instills a profound sense of pride in Ilonggos. It’s more than just a compilation of recipes and culinary stories; it’s a heartfelt endeavor created for every Ilonggo. We aim to celebrate and preserve our rich gastronomic heritage, ensuring that each dish, each story, and each memory is shared with the world,” the city mayor said.

Aside from its aim to intensify awareness of local cuisine through active promotion and patronage, the book is another initiative towards achieving RISE, Iloilo City’s strategic roadmap for balanced development, focusing on economic growth, environmental sustainability, cultural heritage, and the wellbeing of its people.

“Ginadayaw kag ginapalab-ot ko gid ang akon pagpasalamat sa tanan who have contributed to putting Iloilo on the map through our cuisine. Let’s continue to celebrate and share the best of our city globally,” said Mayor Treñas.

Just recently, Iloilo City was featured in The Philippine Star’s Lifestyle section in an article titled “Iloilo and the Art of Hi-Lo Eating” written by Lisa Guerrero Nakpil. The piece underscores the city’s unique ability to blend high-end and heritage-inspired dining experiences seamlessly.

“There has been, however, a long-standing culinary tradition of juxtaposing the upmarket with street food, and Iloilo City has mastered that very particular art of Hi-Lo Eating. To be sure, there are exemplars of the high life and the low tech all over Iloilo, as there are in any Philippine city; it’s just that Iloilo seems to do it with a bit more panache,” Nakpil wrote.

Nakpil narrates the city’s food scene, from a comforting bowl of KBL (Kadios-Baboy-Langka) stew at Balay Remedios to the indulgent decadence of tablea chocolate mousse.

Her and her group’s exploration of Iloilo’s food scene reflects the city’s remarkable diversity of flavors and narratives. They savored iconic dishes, including the renowned Pancit Molo dumpling soup at Panaderia de Molo, the flavorful batchoys at Alicia’s and The Granary of Richmonde Hotel, as well as the delectable seafood offerings at Breakthrough Restaurant. They also got the chance to visit heritage millionaire’s mansions and the Iloilo River esplanade.

The feature likewise highlights iconic landmarks like Plaza de Molo, lively midnight bibingka stalls, and culinary pioneers such as Mama’s Kitchen and Camiña Balay nga Bato, reflecting the depth and ingenuity of Iloilo’s culinary tradition.

Iloilo City’s gastronomy book also headlined Inquirer.net through an article titled “Iloilo’s Culinary Pride Now in a Book” and online website CoverStory through an article “Gastronomy book brings Ilonggo cuisine to the world.”

“I take immense pride and joy in seeing our local flavors receive this recognition. This milestone reminds us of the importance of preserving our traditions while embracing the future of Iloilo City as a hub of culture and creativity,” Treñas said.

A brainchild of the city’s first lady, Rosalie, who also serves as the project executive director, the book is a joint project of the Iloilo city government and the Iloilo Festivals Foundation Inc. (IFFI), marking the fourth book published by the local government.

It is implemented by the Iloilo City MICE (Meetings Incentives Conferences and Exhibit) Center through Treñas’ Executive Assistant on Special Projects, Leny Ledesma, assisted by Special Assistant to the City Mayor, Maria Mathilde Treñas.

Renowned cultural advocate, PJ Arañador, served as the cultural consultant; while Guillermo “Ige” Ramos of the Ugnayan Center for Filipino Gastronomy was the conceptual framework and creative director; and Michaela Fenix as the editor.

Comprised of six major chapters, each section was written by Ilonggo professionals and writers such as Geography by Vicente Segovia Salas; Ethnicity by Hazel Palmares Villa; Ingredients by Glenda S. Tayona and Pearl Rylene Mae S. Socias, with watercolor illustrations by Ilonggo artists Vic Nabor and Kevin Fernandez; Technology by Ted Aldwin Ong; and Recipes by Rosalie S. Treñas.

Mayor Treñas himself wrote the book’s Introduction by sharing his childhood food memories; National Commission for Culture and the Arts Executive Director, Dr. Eric Babar Zerrudo, wrote the Preface with a title “Comfort and Meaning in a Bowl of Batchoy; the Afterword by Dr. Laya Boquerin Gonzales, an assistant professor and chair of the Department of Arts, University of Asia and the Pacific, and a member of the International Council on Monuments and Sites Philippines and of the International Council of Museums; and the back cover blurb by Dr. Clement C. Camposano, chancellor of the University of the Philippines Visayas.

In the Recipes chapter, the extensive collection of Ilonggo dishes was detailed with vivid photographs. It gave a spotlight on local ingredients, traditional cooking methods, and culinary processes.

Esteemed Ilonggo chefs and restaurateurs, including Cidj Jalandoni, Miguel Cordova, Miner del Mundo, Raymundo Robles, Maridel P. Uygongco, and Rosalie S. Treñas, among others, have contributed their expertise and signature dishes to this chapter.

The book has also the participation of the Technical Institute of Iloilo City (TIIC).

Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia, who wrote a foreword for the book, extended her heartfelt congratulations to the Iloilo City Government, led by Treñas, and the IFFI, for their visionary leadership and dedication to the publication of the remarkable book.

“Your efforts have placed Iloilo on the global map, with the city’s recent inclusion in UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network as a Creative City of Gastronomy, highlighting Iloilo’s position as a beacon of cultural pride and culinary excellence, inspiring us all to cherish and celebrate our unique gastronomic heritage,” she remarked./PN

By Ime Sornito -Monday, December 9, 2024

The Municipality of Mina was declared champion in Universal Health Care implementation and local health system maturity in Iloilo Province.

ILOILO City – The Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO) honored top-performing local government units (LGUs), health partners, and retired health workers during the 2024 Health Excellence and Leadership (HEAL) Awards held on December 6 at the Iloilo Convention Center in Mandurriao district here.

With the theme “MoRProGRes Iloilo para sa Kalusugan at Kaunlaran Tungo sa Bagong Pilipinas”, the event celebrated the contributions of stakeholders in advancing the Iloilo Province-Wide Health System.

IPHO head Dr. Maria Socorro Colmenares-Quiñon said the awards recognize the efforts of development partners, hospitals, and LGUs with their health offices in delivering equitable, people-centered, and high-quality health services under the principles of good governance and multi-sectoral collaboration.

The major awards, acknowledging exemplary performance in Universal Health Care (UHC) implementation and local health system maturity, were presented to the following municipalities:

* Champion — Mina, Iloilo (Plaque and P200,000 cash prize)

Special Citations were also awarded to Pototan, Balasan, Tigbauan, Dueñas, and Barotac Viejo, with each municipality receiving a plaque of appreciation and P40,000 cash prize.

The awards ceremony was led by Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary Dr. Mary Ann Palermo-Maestral, Provincial Legal Officer Atty. Dennis Ventilacion (representing Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr.), DOH Region 6 Local Health Support Division Chief Dr. Mary Ann Sta. Lucia, Provincial Board member June Mondejar, and IPHO officials Dr. Maria Socorro Quiñon, Dr. Wendel Marcelo, and Dr. Rodney Labis.

In his message delivered by Atty. Ventilacion, Governor Defensor emphasized that health is the cornerstone of his social justice agenda, MoRProGRes ILOILO, or the Movement for a Robust, Progressive, Globally-Competitive, and Resilient Province of Iloilo.

“Through our partnership and collaboration, we bridge the gap and amplify our impact,” Defensor said, thanking LGUs, national agencies, and stakeholders for their trust.

He acknowledged that these partnerships have enabled provincial health programs to reach even the most remote households, elevating the health and well-being of Ilonggos.

“Together, we have elevated the health and well-being of Ilonggos,” he added./PN

ILOILO City – The prominent Lopez family of Iloilo has officially unveiled “The Patrimony of All – Ang Panublion sang Tanan”, an exhibit featuring 16 carefully selected masterpieces by renowned Filipino artists Juan Luna, Felix Hidalgo, Juan Arellano, and Fernando Amorsolo from the Lopez Museum and Library (LML) Collection.

The exhibit, which runs from Nov. 25, 2024 to April 2025, is being held at the UP Visayas Museum of Art and Cultural Heritage (MACH) here.

During the recent press briefing, Mercedes Lopez-Vargas, president of the Lopez Group Foundation, Inc. and executive director of the Lopez Museum and Library, expressed her enthusiasm for bringing these significant works to Iloilo, aiming to showcase Filipino artistic heritage and inspire cultural appreciation.

ComScore Observer
“We hope to show that these artists painted not just what they saw and felt around them but also conversed with what was imagined elsewhere in the world,” shared Lopez-Vargas.

Curated by Dr. Patrick Flores, “The Patrimony of All” also seeks to highlight the rich architectural heritage and cultural legacy of Iloilo, blending the visual arts with the historical identity of the city.

“The Patrimony of All” is part of the celebration of the 77th Year of the University of the Philippines’ Presence in Iloilo, marking a significant cultural milestone for the city.

The project was conceived by former senator Franklin Drilon in 2019 and realized through the support of Sen. Loren Legarda.

Although the Lopez family, its foundations, and corporations are based in Metro Manila, they remain deeply connected to Iloilo, their province of origin.

For over a century, the family has demonstrated a deep commitment to community welfare through their entrepreneurial, civic, and philanthropic initiatives.

During a devastating famine in Iloilo in 1878, Kapitan Eugenio Lopez and his brother Claudio organized relief operations funded from their own resources to aid the affected population.

During the Guimaras Oil Spill in 2006, the family donated 15 hectares of land to families impacted by the disaster, providing them with both shelter and livelihood programs to help rebuild their lives.

These acts of generosity reflect the Lopez family’s dedication to uplifting communities and supporting social development, a legacy they continue to honor through cultural initiatives like “The Patrimony of All” and their ongoing philanthropic efforts.

Beyond providing assistance during times of crisis, the Lopez family has long recognized that building a community requires long-term investment in both its people and the heritage they cherish.

In the 1950s, Kapitan Eugenio’s son and namesake, Eugenio Sr., initiated a program to improve educational facilities, laying the foundation for the Lopez family’s ongoing commitment to education and community development.

Eugenio Sr.’s children and grandchildren also have continued this legacy through various social development projects.

These include several initiatives focused on the town’s growth and welfare in Jaro; the Gawad Kalinga, which contributed to the empowerment of impoverished communities; the Bantay Kalusugan, a program aimed at reducing malnutrition in the region; and skills development and training to supporting weaving collectives and indigenous groups, empowering local artisans and communities to preserve and thrive in their traditional crafts.

Ingrained in the Lopez family and its institutions is an appreciation for the depth and breadth of Philippine cultural heritage, recognizing the importance of preserving and sharing the rich history and traditions of every part of the country.

This spirit of cultural appreciation has driven significant initiatives such when Oscar Lopez personally funded the restoration of the Jaro Cathedral, ensuring that this important historical and cultural landmark in Iloilo would be preserved for future generations./PN

By Panay News -Wednesday, November 20, 2024
“This Community Seeds Growing and Planting Program is a testament to Pavia’s dedication to environmental stewardship and sustainable development. We aim to make tree planting not only a duty but a way of life for Pavianhons,” says Sangguniang Bayan Member Daniel “Dan” Fajardo of Pavia, Iloilo.

PAVIA, Iloilo – In a significant step toward fostering a greener and more sustainable environment, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Iloilo has approved, through Resolution No. 2024-708, a municipal ordinance authored by Sangguniang Bayan (SB) Member Daniel “Dan” Fajardo II of Pavia on September 17, 2024.

ComScore Observer
The ordinance mandates tree planting and growing across all barangays, schools, farms, business establishments, and housing subdivisions in Pavia.

Municipal Ordinance No. 2024-24, titled the “Community Seeds Growing and Planting Program” (CSG-Planting Program), underscores the municipality’s commitment to a balanced and healthful ecology, addressing environmental challenges such as deforestation and flash floods. It requires stakeholders to plant trees in public spaces, plazas, parks, school campuses, and private areas.

The ordinance includes innovative measures such as mandatory tree planting for farmers, residents applying for barangay clearances, business permit applicants, and municipal employees prior to retirement or promotion.

Additionally, all barangays are required to establish tree nurseries to supply seedlings for planting activities.

“This program is a testament to Pavia’s dedication to environmental stewardship and sustainable development,” said SB Member Fajardo. “We aim to make tree planting not only a duty but a way of life for Pavianhons.”

Violators of the ordinance, including unauthorized cutting or damaging of trees, will face penalties such as fines and mandatory planting of replacement trees.

The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) will oversee the implementation and ensure compliance with the ordinance.

The ordinance reflects Pavia’s proactive stance in environmental conservation, setting a model for other municipalities to emulate in addressing climate and ecological concerns./PN

              <text>ILOILO – For the seventh time, the Iloilo provincial government has earned the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Iloilo joins 40 other provinces and a total of 714 local government units (LGUs) across the country awarded with this prestigious recognition for 2024.

The SGLG, established by Republic Act No. 11292, is the highest honor bestowed by the DILG on LGUs that demonstrate excellence in governance.

Dubbed as the “mother of all awards”, the SGLG assesses LGUs across 10 governance areas:

* financial management

* disaster preparedness

* social protection

* health

* education

* business competitiveness

* peace and order

* environmental management

* tourism and culture, and

* youth development

In June, Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. led the provincial government team in a regional assessment held at the Iloilo provincial capitol, after which he expressed confidence in the province’s performance.

“The SGLG serves as a benchmark for our processes here, and we are pleased to meet its standards,” Defensor said.

In 2023, Iloilo Province received its sixth SGLG award, earning a P4-million incentive fund.

This achievement aligns with Defensor’s development vision, MoRProGRes Iloilo (Movement for a Robust, Progressive, Globally Competitive, and Resilient Province of Iloilo), which aims to propel the province forward through a unified development approach. Iloilo also made history by being the first province to achieve the SGLG for four consecutive years (2015–2018) under former governor Arthur Defensor Sr.

Apart from Iloilo Province, 18 municipalities and Passi City in Iloilo also received the 2024 SGLG. The recognized municipalities include Alimodian, Anilao, Banate, Bingawan, Cabatuan, Concepcion, Lambunao, Leganes, Maasin, Mina, New Lucena, Oton, Pavia, Pototan, San Enrique, Tigbauan, Tubungan, and Zarraga.

In Western Visayas, five provinces secured the SGLG this year: Aklan, Antique, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental.

Additionally, 13 cities in the region earned the award, including Bacolod City, Bago City, Cadiz City, Escalante City, Himamaylan City, La Carlota City, Passi City, Sagay City, San Carlos City, Silay City, Sipalay City, Talisay City, and Victorias City.

A total of 44 municipalities in Western Visayas received the SGLG. Aside from those 18 in Iloilo, these are the following:

* Aklan – Banga, Batan, Burungan, Ibajay, Kalibo, Malay, New Washington, Tangalan

* Antique – Barbaza, Belsion, Culasi, Libertad, Pandan, Patnongon, San Jose de Buenavista, San Remigio, Valderrama

* Capiz – Dao and Dumarao

* Negros Occidental – Enrique B. Magalona, Hinigaran, Ilog, Isabela, La Castellana, and Manapla</text>

              <text>Western Visayas transport summit on Nov. 15
By Ime Sornito -Wednesday, November 13, 2024

ILOILO City – To provide a platform for transport groups to voice their concerns regarding the government’s Public Transport Modernization Program (PTMP) – previously known as the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program – the Western Visayas Alliance of Transport Cooperatives and Corporations, Inc. (WVATCCI) is organizing the first Western Visayas Transport Summit 2024 on Friday, Nov. 15, in this city.

The WVATCCI, in collaboration with the local governments of Iloilo City and Province, the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Land Transportation Office (LTO), the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), and the Liga ng Transportasyon at Operators ng Pilipinas (LTOP), spearheads the summit.

According to WVATCCI president Rizalito Alido, who chairs the summit committee, the WVATCCI and LTFRB Region 6 aim to showcase support for the modernization program, especially as Iloilo City was the first to secure approval for its enhanced Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP).

Halley Alcarde, general manager of the Western Visayas Transport Cooperative (WVTC), expects around 250 officers from various transport cooperatives and corporations across the region to attend, alongside representatives from the city and provincial governments of Iloilo and relevant law enforcement agencies.

Perfecto Yap, adviser to Joroshely Transport Services and consultant to WVATCCI, said the summit offers a rare chance for transport groups to address their concerns directly with government officials from DOTr, LTO, and LTFRB.

“This summit provides an opportunity for us to present our issues and concerns directly, with the expectation of timely answers,” Yap said during a press conference on Monday, Nov. 11, at the LTFRB regional office in Jaro district.

The summit also aims to strengthen the unity of transport groups across the region, fostering a collective voice for their shared advocacy.

During the event, a new set of officers for LTOP – Western Visayas will be inducted, and former Ilocos Sur governor Chavit Singson will personally launch an e-jeep initiative, introducing these electric jeepneys to transport cooperatives and corporations interested in acquiring units.

Yap said WVATCCI’s primary concern to be raised at the summit is the lack of enforcement by the LTO against “colorum” or unregistered jeepneys, which has adversely affected the operations of mini-buses.

Additionally, they will address the LTFRB’s extension until Nov. 29, 2024, for the consolidation of unconsolidated units, which has impacted the processing and release of loan funding for mini-bus purchases.

Currently, out of the 1,782 units awarded to WVATCCI in Iloilo City, only 531 mini-buses are operational./PN

              <text>Business entities laud Iloilo for ‘most competitive city’ award
By Panay News -Friday, November 8, 2024

BY GEROME DALIPE IV

ILOILO City – Several business entities here have congratulated the city government following its recognition as the Overall Most Competitive Highly Urbanized City (HUC) by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region-6.

Among those offering their congratulations were MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power), the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Iloilo, Inc., and Metro Pacific Iloilo Water (MPIW).

These organizations praised the city for this prestigious achievement, highlighting Iloilo City’s continued growth, competitiveness, and resilience.

They also acknowledged the collective efforts of the local government, the private sector, and the people of Iloilo, which have contributed to the city’s success in earning this recognition as one of the most competitive cities in the region.

MORE Power president and chief executive officer Roel Castro praised the recognition of Iloilo City as the Overall Most Competitive Highly Urbanized City (HUC) by DTI Region VI, emphasizing that the distinction reflects the city’s commitment to effective governance, sustained economic growth, and the power of public-private partnerships.

Castro lauded the collaborative approach that has driven the city’s success, stating, “This success highlights the impact of a shared vision, strong leadership in the local government, and cooperation from the private sector.”

He emphasized that it is through the collective efforts of the city government and its partners that Iloilo City has been able to excel.

MORE Power, he said, is proud to be part of this journey and remains committed to ensuring a competitive power supply with reasonable rates for Ilonggos and businesses, which in turn helps attract more investors to the city.

MORE Power remains committed to supporting the city’s development by guaranteeing reliable energy services, contributing to the city’s overall infrastructure improvement, and encouraging sustainable development.

The Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Iloilo, Inc. (FCCI) also extended their congratulations to Iloilo City for being recognized as the Overall Most Competitive Highly Urbanized City (HUC) by DTI Region VI.

FCCCI described the recognition as a proud achievement that reflects the city’s ongoing commitment to good governance, sustainable development, and collaborative growth.

FCCI President Engr. Terrence Uygongco expressed particular pride in Iloilo City’s top ranking across all five competitiveness pillars: Economic Dynamism, Government Efficiency, Resiliency, Infrastructure, and Innovation.

He commended the leadership of Mayor Jerry Treñas, Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon, the City Council, and the entire city government team for their dedication and hard work.

Uygongco also highlighted the crucial role of public-private partnerships (PPP) in advancing the city’s progress, noting that these efforts continue to guide Iloilo toward a bright and inclusive future.

“As a steadfast partner in lloilo City’s progress, the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce of loilo, Inc. is honored to contribute to the city’s growth and development through ongoing partnerships. This recognition reinforces our shared commitment to creating a business-friendly, resilient, and vibrant environment that benefits not only the city but also the entire region,” said Uygongco.

For its part, MPIW expressed heartfelt congratulations to the Iloilo City Government. The company underscored that this prestigious award is a testament to the city’s steadfast commitment to growth, resilience, and vibrancy.

MPIW Chief Operating Officer Angelo David Berba noted that this accomplishment was made possible through the strong collaboration between the local government, the private sector, and the people of Iloilo, which has driven the city’s progress and competitiveness.
